I visited Halifax and the surrounding area during the Tall Ships Challenge 2004 event. Other festivities related to the 400th anniversary of l'Acadie and the World Acadian Congress were on at the same time. At one point, it seemed like the whole of Halifax was strolling along the waterfront!
About 40 Tall Ships graced Halifax's harbour area, with long lines of tourists and visitors waiting to take a peek inside the ships.
Peggy's Cove, the picturesque village with the famous lighthouse, is a 40 minute drive from Halifax. Although the sweeping views from the lighthouse location are wonderful, the harbour area held more appeal to me. There is something about the light and the way it hits the colourful fishing boats to create the reflections on the water, that makes the area very photogenic.
